YHI Aung (Myanmar) Company, which includes major shares owned by Min Aung Hlaing’s son Aung Pyae Sone, has obtained rights to import and distribute renowned Japanese and European car tires and lubricants under the leadership of business proxy Maung Maung Naing, according to business community sources. Maung Maung Naing, who serves as a trusted associate of Aung Pyae Sone, oversees numerous business ventures including Sky One Construction Company, while also maintaining a monopolistic control over Myanmar’s tire and engine oil market through YHI Aung (Myanmar) Company.
YHI Aung (Myanmar) Company imports and distributes Japanese Yokohama tires, Europe’s famous Dunlop tires, and ELF engine oil owned by French company Total. The company is a joint venture between Aung San Company Limited and YHI Corporation (Singapore). Despite Western sanctions imposed on Aung Pyae Sone and Maung Maung Naing, their company continues to receive permission to import European and Japanese branded products. Business sources indicate that Maung Maung Naing serves as Aung Pyae Sone’s primary business proxy, operating companies under new names to circumvent international sanctions.
According to business operators, YHI Aung (Myanmar) has emerged as a dominant player in Myanmar’s automotive tire and lubricant market, securing exclusive distributorship rights for international quality products. Through these arrangements, the military council leader’s family members continue to derive business profits while circumventing international sanctions through various means. The company’s operations demonstrate how individuals connected to the military leadership maintain their business interests despite international pressure, controlling significant portions of Myanmar’s automotive supply market through corporate structures and business relationships that obscure their involvement.
