Following a powerful earthquake in Naypyidaw that caused significant damage to military leader Min Aung Hlaing’s residence, his family members were urgently evacuated to Yangon. The earthquake, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, struck on March 28 at 12:52 PM, causing considerable damage to Min Aung Hlaing’s home in the Sixlane area of Naypyidaw. As a result of the damage, his son Aung Pyae Sone, daughter Khin Thiri Thet Mon, and grandchildren who were present in Naypyidaw were immediately transported to Yangon via special military helicopter.
Min Aung Hlaing has five grandchildren who attend EMPS (Excellent Myanmar Private School), an institution owned by Dr. Maung Maung Latt, the brother of his trusted associate Maung Maung Naing, and his wife Chaw Su Hlaing. The grandchildren typically visit their grandfather in Naypyidaw during school holidays and breaks. His son Aung Pyae Sone has three daughters: the eldest Chit Po (also known as Khin Nyein Chan Pyae Sone Hlaing), Khin Bone Myat Pyae Sone Hlaing (nicknamed Shwe Po), and the youngest daughter. His daughter Khin Thiri Thet Mon has two daughters: Ei Po (also known as Eikari Thet Mon Hlaing) and May Po (also known as May Barany Thet Mon Hlaing).
Normally, Min Aung Hlaing and his wife spend the traditional Thingyan holiday period in Pyin Oo Lwin with their children and grandchildren. During these family trips, they regularly use special military helicopters for transportation. The recent emergency evacuation to Yangon was necessitated by the extensive damage caused to their Naypyidaw residence by the earthquake, forcing the family to relocate for safety reasons.
