Military council leader Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Kyu Kyu Hla are scheduled to visit China from August 30 to September 6. During this trip, Min Aung Hlaing will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and study various economically developed cities and industrial zones in China. While Myanmar is not a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, it has been recognized as a dialogue partner since 2023.
The summit will be held from August 31 to September 1, marking the 5th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Additionally, Min Aung Hlaing will attend the military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II and the victory celebration, which will be held in China on September 3.
During this visit, there are plans to study China’s economic developments, particularly focusing on modern industrial zones and economically prosperous cities. Although Myanmar participates in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as a dialogue partner, it maintains only observer status at the meetings as it has not yet been granted full membership in the organization. The trip represents another diplomatic engagement for the military council leader, who continues to seek international recognition despite the ongoing crisis in Myanmar.
