The Northwestern Command Headquarters (NaCaKa) in Monywa, Sagaing Region, was attacked by revolutionary forces using three rockets, resulting in the deaths of nine military personnel including one officer, and causing fires that destroyed the administrative office, helicopter hangar, and restricted materials storage. The attack occurred at approximately 9:43 PM on March 23 and was carried out through a joint operation by multiple resistance groups including Brave Warriors for Myanmar-BWM, Freedom Revolution Force (FRF), Yan Gyi Aung (Budalin), Shadow (Monywa), and Democratic Rangers under BWM’s leadership.
During the attack, the administrative office of the Northwestern Command Headquarters was set ablaze, with one officer and six other military personnel, including senior clerk warrant officers, sustaining injuries. Among the wounded, two clerks succumbed to their severe injuries. The helicopter hangar was also destroyed by fire, while one officer and six other personnel from the security reserve column from various military townships were killed, with an additional twelve soldiers suffering injuries. The attack also resulted in the destruction of restricted materials at the No. 81 Communications Workshop.
While two MI-17 military helicopters typically operate from the Northwestern Command Headquarters, observers noted that only one helicopter was seen conducting operations during the night of the attack, suggesting possible damage to the other aircraft. Resistance forces noted it was unusual that there was no retaliatory fire from the military following the attack. The successful operation demonstrated the continued coordination and effectiveness of revolutionary forces in their struggle against the military council, with resistance leaders affirming their commitment to continuing their fight alongside revolutionary forces across the country.
