In a series of battles lasting four days in Tadar-U and Ngatogyi townships of Mandalay Region, more than twenty military personnel were killed and over eight were injured, according to officials from the Natogyi People’s Defense Force. The fighting, which occurred between February 26 and March 1, saw the military conducting airstrikes and burning civilian homes in retaliation for their losses.
The conflicts began near Myaing Thar village in Tadar-U Township, where Battalion 4 and Battalion 10 of Myingyan District, along with Tadar-U PDF, engaged with military forces. The battles subsequently spread to areas near Thasonlay village and Myat Hsu village in Ngatogyi Township. The military responded to their mounting casualties by deploying Mi-35 attack helicopters for aerial assaults. The intensity of the fighting escalated as resistance forces continued to defend against the military’s offensive operations.
On March 1, fierce battles erupted near Kyaukkan village in Myingyan Township, prompting the military to launch two jet fighter strikes and four Mi-35 helicopter attacks. During the four days of fighting, resistance forces managed to capture various military weapons and ammunition. The military had deployed approximately 200 troops, advancing from mile post 335 of Tadar-U Township’s highway to Yonyin Taw village in Ngatogyi Township.
Due to the ongoing nature of the conflicts, Battalion 4 and Battalion 10 of Myingyan District have requested ammunition support to continue their defensive operations. The military’s offensive has resulted in the destruction of civilian homes through arson and forced local residents to flee as internally displaced persons. Local sources report significant civilian infrastructure damage and displacement of residents from affected areas as the military continues its campaign of destruction in response to battlefield losses.
