A spokesperson from the Salin Township People’s Defense Force has confirmed that more than 10 military soldiers were killed and one military vehicle was destroyed during a series of mine attacks by revolutionary forces against military columns entering Salin Township in Magway Region. The military operations lasted 12 days, from March 6 to March 17, during which the military forces attempted to advance through the Salin-Sinphyukyun road and Sinphyukyun-Tanaing road sections using armored vehicles.
On March 6, when the military column reached the Salin-Sinphyukyun road section, members of the Township People’s Defense Force launched mine attacks at two different locations, resulting in exchanges of fire between both sides. Additionally, along the Sinphyukyun-Tanaing road section, the Township People’s Defense Force, in collaboration with allied revolutionary battalion forces, conducted mine attacks that led to further exchanges of fire. Due to casualties suffered by the military, they responded with multiple airstrikes in the area.
On March 16, when the military attempted to reinforce their troops with six vehicles from the Pwintbyu area, revolutionary forces launched another attack using Padamya mines on the Salin-Sinphyukyun road section. This attack resulted in the destruction of one military vehicle and numerous military casualties. As the military continued their advance toward the Sinphyukyun-Tanaing road section with their reinforced troops, resistance fighters from the Tanaing sub-township (Salin PDF Zone 3) conducted additional mine attacks in the evening, leading to more clashes between the two sides.
Throughout the 12-day period of fighting, the military suffered at least 10 confirmed casualties and numerous injuries, while revolutionary forces were able to successfully withdraw without any losses. The coordinated attacks involved multiple resistance groups, including the Salin Township People’s Defense Force, Minbu District Battalion 1, Daung Sit Aung PDF, Magway District Battalion, Magway Township PDF, and Seikphyu Township PDF. The military column has since withdrawn from the area, according to local resistance force representatives.
