A spokesperson from the Salin Township People’s Defense Force has confirmed that military forces suffered at least 10 casualties and lost one vehicle during a series of mine attacks by revolutionary forces in Magway Region’s Salin Township. The military operations, which involved armored vehicles, took place over a 12-day period from March 6 to March 17 along the Salin-Sinphyukyun and Sinphyukyun-Tanaing road sections.
On March 6, when military forces reached the Salin-Sinphyukyun road section, members of the Township People’s Defense Force launched attacks using mines at two different locations. This resulted in an exchange of fire between both sides. Additionally, along the Sinphyukyun-Tanaing road section, the Township People’s Defense Force, in collaboration with allied revolutionary battalion forces, conducted mine attacks that led to further exchanges of fire. After sustaining casualties, the military responded with repeated airstrikes in the area.
On March 16, when the military attempted to reinforce their presence with six military vehicles from Pwintbyu, revolutionary forces launched another attack using Padamya mines along the Salin-Sinphyukyun road section. This attack resulted in the complete destruction of one military vehicle and numerous casualties among military personnel. As the military continued their advance toward the Sinphyukyun-Tanaing road section with their reinforced units, they encountered another mine attack in the evening by revolutionary fighters from the Tanaing sub-township (Salin PDF Zone 3), leading to additional clashes.
Throughout the 12-day period of fighting, the military suffered at least 10 confirmed fatalities and numerous injuries, while revolutionary forces were able to successfully withdraw without any casualties. The coordinated attacks were carried out through the joint efforts of the Salin Township People’s Defense Force, Minbu District Battalion 1, Daung Sit Aung LPDF, Magway District Battalion, Magway Township PDF, and Seikphyu Township PDF, according to officials familiar with the operations.
