
In a clash that occurred in Nammar town, Mohnyin Township, Kachin State, local People’s Defense Forces attacked a military patrol unit, resulting in two soldiers killed and two captured, along with the seizure of weapons, as confirmed by the Kachin People’s Defense Force (KPDF). The ambush took place on the morning of August 18 in the Namslaw area of Nammar town, Mohnyin Township, where KPDF joint forces intercepted and attacked the patrolling military unit. During the engagement, two military personnel were killed, two were captured alive, and one firearm was seized. The vehicle used by the military personnel was also destroyed by fire.
Currently, tensions between the military and local People’s Defense Forces in Mohnyin Township have escalated, with the military only maintaining control over urban areas, while rural regions remain under the control of People’s Defense Forces and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) allied forces, according to revolutionary sources. Additionally, in Moegaung Township, Kachin State, where military tensions continue to rise, the military conducted airstrikes near Kasut village, where a KIA battalion is stationed, carrying out approximately five bombing runs, according to local sources.
These ongoing conflicts have caused significant concern among local residents, with some fleeing to safer areas. The security situation in the region is expected to deteriorate further, requiring local civilians to remain vigilant as clashes between the two forces are likely to continue. Currently, military airstrikes have resulted in damage to civilian homes and agricultural lands, with reports of civilian casualties and injuries. The local population continues to face challenges due to the ongoing military operations and the resulting displacement and destruction of property in the area.
