The extortion amounts range from thousands to hundreds of thousands of kyats per instance.
Major Zaw Zaw Win and his team have been visiting villages near the Kan Sone Ma Air Defense Base, threatening young people with military service laws and extorting money from their parents. They also arrest and detain young people under false accusations of being PDF members, using these arrests as leverage for further extortion. Parents who refuse to pay are summoned for interrogation and subjected to threats. The situation has become so severe that even his own subordinates within the military have grown dissatisfied with his actions.
Reports indicate that Major Zaw Zaw Win has also been engaging in inappropriate behavior within the military compound, including verbal sexual harassment of female service members. Despite being married with his wife residing in Pyinmana, Naypyidaw, he is reportedly involved in an illicit relationship with a female Police Sub-Lieutenant from Yenangyaung Township Police Station. His actions have created an atmosphere of fear and oppression within both the military ranks and the local community.
According to local residents, no one has been able to stop Major Zaw Zaw Win’s actions, and complaints filed against him have not resulted in any disciplinary measures. The local population continues to suffer the most under his oppression, facing daily extortion and threats. The people of Seikphyu Township are living in constant fear under the oppressive actions of Major Zaw Zaw Win, with no apparent recourse or protection available to them. The situation has created a climate of terror and helplessness among the local population, who must endure these abuses while attempting to maintain their daily lives.
