A military officer was killed when troops stepped on mines laid by the People’s Defense Force during a military column operation in Yenangyaung Township, Magway Region, according to a spokesperson from the People’s Defense Force-Yenangyaung (PDF-YNG). On June 25, military forces entered the township through the road connecting Gwekone village and Wetchok village. The column made an overnight stop at Thabetkone village before continuing their advance toward Choing village the following morning on June 26.
Near Choing village, the troops encountered mines previously planted by PDF forces, resulting in the death of one military officer and injuries to several other soldiers. Following the mine explosion, the military forces entered Choing village and set up camp for the night. During their stay, they forcibly confiscated property belonging to local civilians, according to residents. The operation was a joint effort between the People’s Defense Force-Yenangyaung, Yenanthar Column, Tamar Myay Special Column, and the Intaw District PDF.
Due to the casualties sustained, the military forces retreated to Yenangyaung town on the morning of June 27. The PDF spokesperson confirmed that no civilians were injured or arrested during this incident. The coordinated attack demonstrated the continued resistance against military forces in the region, with local defense forces working together to oppose military operations in civilian areas. The incident highlights the ongoing conflict between pro-democracy forces and the military council in the Magway Region, where such confrontations have become increasingly common since the military coup.
