The military council conducted an airstrike on a school in Sintguu town, Mandalay Region, around 2 PM on April 2nd, according to a district PDF official. A fighter jet that took off from Meiktila targeted the school in what appears to be a deliberate attack. While the airstrike caused damage to school buildings, fortunately no civilians were reported injured in the incident. The attack demonstrates the military’s continued targeting of civilian infrastructure, including educational facilities.
Simultaneously, the military also carried out helicopter attacks on villages in Pale Township, Sagaing Region, as confirmed by an official from the Pale Township People’s Administration Body. On March 29th, an MI-17 military helicopter targeted villages in the western part of Pale Township using Point-5 heavy weapons in what witnesses described as deliberate attacks on civilian areas. Although no casualties were reported in these strikes, local residents remain fearful of additional aerial attacks. The military’s actions have created an atmosphere of terror, with civilians living under constant threat of airstrikes.
The military’s aggressive campaign continues even as Myanmar faces natural disasters, including recent earthquake damage. The attacks show a pattern of targeting civilian areas, as evidenced by the March 31st bombing of Letpan Hla village in Sintguu Township, which destroyed civilian homes and property. These ongoing aerial assaults have forced many residents to flee their homes and live in constant fear for their safety. The military’s actions demonstrate a clear disregard for civilian welfare, particularly during times when communities are already struggling with natural disasters and their aftermath. The situation has created a humanitarian crisis, with local populations facing both man-made and natural threats to their survival.
