Local residents reported that the military conducted extensive aerial attacks using aircraft, drones, and powered paragliders on villages in Kani Township, Sagaing Region, during the Thingyan Water Festival, despite there being no active fighting in the area. Between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM, the military carried out aerial strikes targeting villages including Mutaw village and Samingchan village. Using drones, fighter jets, and paramotors, they conducted eight aerial attacks within just half an hour. Due to these attacks, local civilians, Buddhist monks, and those observing religious practices were forced to flee to safety.
According to local sources, these military aerial attacks deliberately targeted civilian populations. Military drones, powered paragliders, and surveillance aircraft continue to fly over Kani Township airspace at present, forcing many residents to evacuate during the Thingyan festival day. These attacks have severely disrupted the daily lives of local residents, particularly during the traditional cultural festival period of Thingyan, leaving people’s lives and properties insecure. The military’s actions have prevented civilians from safely participating in their cultural celebrations and have created an atmosphere of fear and instability in the region.
