In Kinmun village of Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, the military forces conducted a raid during which they tortured and killed a 20-year-old man named Ko Myo Khant Ko Ko and forcibly recruited more than 20 male villagers for military service. The incident occurred on May 13 at approximately 8:50 PM when soldiers from the General Administration Office in Chaung-U, troops from the Mya Palu Oil Shop checkpoint, and soldiers from the Kinmun Multi-purpose Farm combined forces to enter the village with significant military presence.
Kinmun village is strategically located between two military outposts along the Monywa-Mandalay highway, making it easily accessible to military forces at any time. What began as a routine patrol of the route turned into an unexpected raid into the village, with soldiers not only checking the main roads but also conducting thorough searches throughout the residential areas. During this operation, they apprehended Ko Myo Khant Ko Ko, a 20-year-old resident, subjected him to severe torture including knife wounds, and ultimately shot him to death.
The military forces also arrested more than 20 male villagers for forced military service. These detained villagers were first taken to the General Administration Office in Chaung-U, and subsequently transferred to the Northwest Military Command headquarters in Monywa on the evening of May 14. The body of Ko Myo Khant Ko Ko, who was killed by the military, was buried by his family members on May 14. This incident serves as another example of the military’s ongoing violence against civilians and their practice of forced recruitment for military service, highlighting the continued oppression of innocent civilians in Myanmar.
