A military informant named Thun Naing, who had been falsely accusing civilians of supporting the People’s Defense Force (PDF), was killed in a targeted operation in Minhlat Township, Bago Region. According to a responsible official from the Thayarwaddy District PDF, the incident occurred when members of Battalion 3802, Division 3 of the Thayarwaddy District PDF entered Thun Naing’s house in Bogyitaung village around 6:30 PM on March 7. During the operation, Thun Naing was shot three times in the head, resulting in his death.
Thun Naing was a former military serviceman who had become a hardcore informant for the military council. He was known for falsely reporting civilians to the military, accusing them of supporting the PDF, and conducting surveillance on revolutionary forces’ activities. Despite multiple warnings from the PDF to cease his activities, he continued his operations against the civilian population. His actions had forced several local residents to flee their homes due to false accusations of supporting resistance forces.
Operating a motorcycle repair shop in Bogyitaung village, Minhlat Township, Thun Naing used his business as a cover while actively working as a military informant. The PDF official stated that they were forced to take action against him because he not only ignored their warnings to stop working as a military informant and causing trouble for civilians but had actually intensified his activities. The Thayarwaddy District PDF has also issued a warning to civilians to avoid proximity to military informants and their supporters, as they plan to increase operations against military council collaborators who continue to harm the civilian population and revolutionary forces.
