A military informant named Thun Naing, who had been accusing civilians of supporting the People’s Defense Force (PDF) and ordering their arrests, was shot dead in Minhlah Township, Bago Region. According to a responsible person from the Thayarwaddy District PDF, members of Battalion 3802 Column 3 entered Thun Naing’s house in Bogyitaung village on March 7 around 6:30 PM and shot him. He was hit by three bullets and died instantly.
The deceased Thun Naing was a former military serviceman and a hardcore military informant who actively gathered intelligence for the military council. He was known for falsely accusing local civilians of supporting revolutionary forces and reporting them to the military, leading to arrests. He also regularly conducted surveillance on revolutionary force movements and reported their activities to the military. Despite previous warnings from PDF forces to cease these activities, he continued his actions, which ultimately led to the attack. The PDF official explained that Thun Naing operated a motorcycle repair shop by the roadside while simultaneously working as an informant for the military council.
According to the PDF spokesperson, Thun Naing’s actions had forced some local residents to flee their homes. Despite multiple warnings to stop working as a military informant and cease causing trouble for civilians, he not only ignored these warnings but intensified his activities, leading to the decision to take action against him. The PDF forces stated that his elimination was necessary due to his continued harassment of civilians and persistent information sharing with the military council, despite numerous warnings to stop these activities.
Thayarwaddy District Battalion 3802 Column 3 has announced that they will intensify their operations against the military council and their supporters who continue to cause suffering to civilians and revolutionary forces through various means. They have issued a warning to civilians to completely avoid staying near or traveling in areas where military council members or their supporters are present, as operations against these targets will be escalated.
