A military informant named Thun Naing, who had been accusing civilians of supporting the People’s Defense Force (PDF) and ordering their arrests, was shot dead in Minhlah Township, Bago Region, according to a responsible official from the Thayarwaddy District PDF. The incident occurred around 6:30 PM on March 7 at Thun Naing’s residence in Bogyitaung village, Minhlah Township. Members of Battalion 3802, Division 3 of the Thayarwaddy District entered his home and shot him, resulting in his death from three gunshot wounds.
The deceased Thun Naing was a former military serviceman and had been serving as a hardcore informant for the military council. He was known for providing false information to the military, accusing civilians of supporting the PDF, and ordering their arrests. He also conducted surveillance on revolutionary forces’ activities and reported them to the military. Despite multiple warnings from the PDF to cease these activities, he continued his actions, which ultimately led to this attack. The PDF official stated that Thun Naing operated a motorcycle repair shop by the roadside while gathering intelligence on revolutionary activities and reporting to the military, causing some civilians to flee their homes due to his false accusations of PDF support.
The Thayarwaddy District PDF has announced that they will continue to intensify their operations against the military council and its informants who are causing harm to civilians and revolutionary forces. They have warned civilians to avoid staying near or associating with such military informants and their supporters. The PDF emphasized that this action was taken after multiple warnings were ignored, and Thun Naing’s activities had become increasingly harmful to the local population and the revolutionary movement. The organization has also issued a statement urging the public to remain vigilant and stay away from locations where military informants and their associates operate to ensure their safety during future operations.
