A military informant involved in drug trafficking in collaboration with the terrorist military council forces was shot and killed during an arrest operation in Kawthaung Township, Tanintharyi Region, according to an official from the Kawthaung Township People’s Defense Force. The incident occurred on August 6, 2023, when Nay Lin Aung, also known as Poke Poke, a resident of the Ten Houses Ward in Malewan sub-township, was confronted while engaging in drug trafficking, consumption, and carrying weapons while acting as a guide for military forces and gathering intelligence on revolutionary forces’ camps.
According to a responsible official from the Kawthaung Township People’s Defense Force, Nay Lin Aung had previously been arrested by revolutionary forces and had signed multiple pledges, but he continued to violate these agreements and collaborated with the military council. The official confirmed that despite multiple warnings and opportunities for reform, he continued his activities in support of the military council.
The People’s Defense Force has issued a warning to residents of Kawthaung and Khamaukgyi Townships to refrain from selling or using WY stimulant tablets and to avoid collaborating with military council forces in oppressing and unlawfully arresting civilians. The announcement further stated that anyone found engaging in collaboration with the military council or involved in drug trafficking and use would face effective arrest and prosecution, whether discovered through direct observation or reported by citizens. The organization emphasized its commitment to maintaining public safety and preventing military-backed criminal activities in the region.
