A military informant named Aye Lwin, who had been forcing local youth into porter service for the military in Htake Pho Township, Bago Region, was killed in an attack by the People’s Defense Force (PDF). The incident occurred around 9 AM on March 11 when Aye Lwin, a resident of Chaung Kwa (K) village in Htake Pho Township, was returning after delivering information to Infantry Battalion 6. He was shot in the head by members of the Thayarwaddy District Battalion 3802’s 4th Underground Guerrilla Force near the entrance of the village.
Aye Lwin was known for gathering intelligence on revolutionary forces’ activities and reporting to the military, forcing young people to serve as porters, and revealing the locations of landmines placed by resistance forces to target military and police personnel conducting forced recruitment. His son and son-in-law were also military informants. Following his death, the PDF forces recovered a bag, three recommendation letters signed by a military officer, and 36,000 kyats in cash from his possession.
A spokesperson from the Thayarwaddy District PDF stated that Aye Lwin posed a significant threat to local civilians and revolutionary forces, specifically pointing out houses and individuals for the military to target for forced porter recruitment. The PDF has warned civilians to maintain distance from military personnel and their associates. The resistance force has declared its commitment to continue operations against the military and their informants who oppress the civilian population. The PDF emphasized that their actions are aimed at protecting civilians from military oppression and preventing forced recruitment of youth as porters for military operations.
