
In Kyikyun village of Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, the military forces killed 8 civilians, arrested over 40 people, and continuously burned houses for four days. According to local sources, a military column of approximately 200 troops entered Kyikyun village through Bukone village between August 23 and 26, during which they arrested and killed civilians trapped in the village. Additionally, they looted 8 million kyats from the resident monk, U Kovida.
The military forces pursued and shot at civilians attempting to flee the village, resulting in the immediate death of 6 people. Two more civilians were shot dead on the road on August 25, with their bodies later discovered. The military forces expelled the resident monk from the village, and the more than 40 arrested civilians remain in detention. The military column first entered Kyikyun village through Bukone village on August 23, during which they began burning civilian homes and pursuing fleeing residents.
Currently, due to the military’s destruction, over 500 civilian homes along both sides of the strategic road in southern Kanbalu Township have been burned down between August 16 and 28, with approximately 20 civilians killed. The military column remains stationed in the Kyikyun and Yekyioo village areas. Local residents are living in fear due to the military’s brutal actions, with many having fled to safer locations. The systematic burning of homes and killing of civilians has created a humanitarian crisis in the area, with displaced residents facing significant challenges in finding safe shelter and basic necessities. The military’s ongoing presence in the area continues to pose a serious threat to civilian safety and security in the region.
