In Tanintharyi Region’s Longlone Township, the military has blocked city roads and is forcibly recruiting civilians, including women, as part of an order to conscript over 300 young people as new soldiers. According to local residents and revolutionary sources, the military council troops are conducting raids under the orders of the Longlone Township People’s Military Service Recruitment Committee to gather new recruits during August. The military is entering homes and forcibly taking young people, including women around 20 years of age.
The military forces are blocking all city roads at night under the pretext of checking guest registration and forcibly entering homes to arrest young people. They are also maintaining checkpoints at the city’s entry points, where they regularly detain young people traveling from villages to the city. Local sources confirm that in one recent night raid, 13 people were taken, including five women around 20 years old. The military is selecting people at their discretion, creating a severely deteriorating situation in the area.
Due to these arrests, young people in both urban and rural areas are finding it difficult to move freely, with some fleeing their homes out of fear of being conscripted. Revolutionary groups have warned youth to be especially careful as the military’s arrest operations may intensify further in Longlone Township. The military council has been criticized for forcing civilians into military service to bolster their forces, with revolutionary groups documenting these forced conscription practices. The situation has created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among local residents, particularly affecting the young population who are the primary targets of these military recruitment drives.
