A man named Maung Yan Naing Phyo from Seikgyikanaungto Township in Yangon Region, who suffers from heart disease, diabetes, and mental health conditions, has been forcibly recruited by the military for the third time as a soldier. He disappeared on March 4, 2025, while going to work near Danyingone Market, and contact was only reestablished on March 10. He is currently being held at Training Battalion No. 11 in Kyaingtong Township.
During his first forced recruitment, Maung Yan Naing Phyo was missing for over a month, leading his family to file a missing person report at the Seikgyikanaungto Township Police Station. He was later found to have been taken to Training Battalion No. 1 in Phaung Gyi via the Danyingone recruitment center. However, due to his medical conditions, he failed the medical examination, and Captain Than Zaw Soe from Training Battalion No. 1 in Phaung Gyi notified authorities. He was subsequently returned to his parents through the Danyingone recruitment center.
In the second instance, he was recruited under Captain Aung Hein, the recruitment officer in Dedaye Township, but was again sent home after failing the medical examination. However, he has now been forcibly recruited for the third time and sent to Training Battalion No. 11 in Kyaingtong Township. Despite having medical certificates proving his unsuitability for military service due to coronary artery disease, diabetes, and mental health issues, the military has continued to forcibly recruit him, causing severe distress to his parents. This repeated forced recruitment of a person with documented medical conditions highlights the military’s disregard for proper recruitment procedures and human rights.
