The Myanmar military forces conducted raids in Myat Myaing village of Thilin Township, Magway Region, where they arrested 10 civilians and looted civilian properties, according to confirmation from the Thilin Township People’s Defense Force. On August 7 at approximately 6:30 AM, a military column of about 50 personnel from Kyaw Nat Htop area entered Myat Myaing village and systematically looted villagers’ possessions.
The military column forcibly took 10 civilians as human shields and made them carry the looted items. They departed the village in the evening after completing their raid. The troops destroyed goods from shops, including fertilizer bags, and extensively looted other valuable items from throughout the village, as detailed by an official from the Thilin Township People’s Defense Force. The military’s actions represented a systematic operation of theft and intimidation against civilian populations.
In a similar incident in Magway Region, troops from Infantry Battalion 22 based in Seikphyu Township raided Win San village, where they beat villagers and looted gold jewelry and money. During the incident on August 6, the military forces forcibly entered homes to search and seize all valuable items they could find. When villagers requested the return of their gold jewelry, they were met with death threats from the soldiers. Local residents reported that the military also took livestock from the village and physically assaulted elderly villagers during the raid. These incidents represent an ongoing pattern of military forces conducting raids against civilian populations, using violence and intimidation while systematically looting civilian property.
