In Gway Chaung village of Ottho Township, Bago Region, military forces entered the village to forcibly recruit young people as porters, resulting in one youth being shot and injured while attempting to flee. During this incident on March 10, the military entered the village firing weapons and attempted to forcibly arrest young residents. Currently, young people from the village continue to remain in hiding for their safety, and the exact number of those arrested cannot yet be confirmed.
Additionally, in Nga Min May village of Nyaung-U Township, Mandalay Region, military forces raided a house where a funeral was being held and arrested twenty young villagers. Due to insufficient space in their vehicles, the military forcibly commandeered a civilian-owned vehicle from the village. This incident has caused young people from neighboring villages to abandon sleeping in their homes, instead taking refuge in nearby forests and mountains. The military’s actions have created an atmosphere of fear and instability throughout the region, forcing civilians to flee their homes for safety.
In Azok Town’s Intha Ra village of Taikkyi Township, Yangon Region, the military-appointed village administrator Hla Kying and hundred-household heads Phoe Thay Thay, Kyaw Htay, and Bo are collecting monthly fees of 10,000 kyats from local youth as military service fees, while sending their own children abroad. They are also implementing a lottery system for military service recruitment. These actions represent a clear pattern of oppression against civilians by military-aligned local authorities, who exempt their own families while forcing others to bear the burden of military service and financial exploitation.
