
Following an attack on a military checkpoint that resulted in the death of three soldiers, the military council is forcing residents to evacuate from Wachet village, located along the Sagaing-Mingun road in Sagaing Region. Local residents reported to Yangon Modern News that the military has been conducting aggressive operations in the village since the incident. The attack occurred on July 5th in the afternoon when resistance forces targeted the military checkpoint in Wachet village, resulting in the death of three military personnel. Following the attack, the military entered the village and has been firing weapons daily while forcing villagers to leave their homes.
According to a local resident, the military has been retaliating against the attack by firing weapons at night and threatening to burn down villagers’ homes. They have been patrolling within the village and intimidating residents. Additionally, the military has blocked connecting roads between villages and is conducting strict security checks, forcing people passing through to kneel down. These actions have created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among the local population. The military’s presence in the village has intensified, with soldiers regularly conducting patrols and threatening residents with various forms of harassment.
