A representative from the People’s Democratic Army (PDA) has confirmed that the military forces are conducting operations in villages within Nyaung-U Township, Mandalay Region, burning internally displaced persons’ (IDP) shelters without any active fighting in the area. On April 2, military forces entered Kyaukpyikan village in Nyaung-U Township without any combat engagement and attacked displaced civilians with both heavy and light weapons.
The military forces arrived at Zizamyint village on April 1 and split into two columns to conduct operations in various villages. One column entered Kyaukpyikan village while another reached Myaythantaung village. The military burned IDP shelters in Kyaukpyikan village and fired 60mm artillery shells indiscriminately in the area. This aggressive action has caused significant displacement and destruction of civilian property.
Previously, the military had already conducted a first wave of destruction in Kyaukpyikan village, burning down 12 houses and looting civilian property worth nearly 50 million kyats. The looting was carried out by both military personnel and Pyu Saw Htee members. These brutal actions by the military forces have caused widespread fear among local residents, forcing many to flee to safer locations. The continuous pattern of destruction and violence against civilian populations has created a humanitarian crisis in the region, with many families losing their homes and possessions while seeking refuge from the military’s operations.
