The Karen National Union (KNU) sources have confirmed that the military council forces launched an attack using suicide drones near the residence of KNLA Commander-in-Chief General Saw Johnny, located within KNU Brigade 7’s controlled territory. The incident occurred at 3 AM on March 18, when three suicide drones launched by the military council forces struck and exploded near General Saw Johnny’s residence in KNU Brigade 7 territory. However, the attack resulted in no casualties or damage to property.
According to KNU sources, three drone bombs exploded in succession, with the blasts powerful enough to cause ground tremors. One of the bombs detonated near a waterfront area, while another exploded near a football field. The military council forces targeted the KNU Brigade 7 headquarters in this attack, and it was noted that the explosive power of the bombs used in this assault was significantly stronger than previous attacks. The source emphasized that while the explosions were intense, fortunately no injuries or casualties were reported from this targeted attack.
This attack is believed to be a retaliatory response following the successful capture of the military council’s Pu Lu Tu camp in Paingkyon Township by KNLA-led allied forces on March 14. The military council appears to have targeted the KNU Brigade 7 headquarters in response to losing their camp. This drone bombing near civilian residential areas represents another instance of the military council’s brutal tactics against civilian populations. The attack demonstrates the military council’s continued use of aerial warfare against ethnic armed organizations and their increasing reliance on drone technology in their military operations.
