According to military sources in Naypyidaw, coup leader Min Aung Hlaing has promised promotions, medals, and substantial rewards to military officers and subordinates who can successfully recapture territories lost to resistance forces across Myanmar. The military council emphasizes the critical importance of establishing stability and peace in the country, stating that military council members must fulfill their national duties diligently. Leadership has promised that soldiers and officers who serve faithfully without regard for their own lives and successfully recapture lost territories will receive special recognition, promotions, medals, and rewards that will secure their future well-being.
The military council is making special efforts this year to reclaim lost cities and territories, currently providing cash rewards to units that successfully recapture outposts and guard stations. Additionally, air force officers involved in aerial bombing operations are receiving financial support, and their families and relatives are being granted enhanced security measures including permission to live within military compounds with access to more spacious housing and facilities. These incentives represent an escalation of previous support measures as the military council struggles to maintain control over contested areas.
Min Aung Hlaing has announced plans to hold elections in December 2025 or early January 2026, and is pressuring currently serving military officers and soldiers to recapture lost territories and cities as quickly as possible before these elections take place. Despite the military council’s efforts to regain control over areas that have broken free from their authority, they continue to face significant challenges due to resistance from People’s Defense Forces and ethnic armed organizations. The increased incentives and rewards system appears to be part of a broader strategy to motivate troops in the face of mounting losses and declining morale within military ranks.
