The Karen National Union (KNU) Central Committee has reported that the military council conducted drone attacks on civilian-populated villages in Kyaikto Township, Mon State. The attacks began on March 1 at approximately 12:30 PM, when the military’s drone unit based at Kwali Yeikan Hill launched six bombs targeting the Pyinkataunkon village cemetery area and a stone mining region covering over 100 acres in the Pyinkataunkon village tract of Kyaikto Township. The military’s actions demonstrate a continued pattern of aggression against civilian areas.
On the same day, the military council’s Artillery Unit 310 fired 10 heavy artillery rounds, while Infantry Battalion 207, operating under Infantry Division 44 Headquarters, launched 8 artillery shells, resulting in multiple explosions throughout Kyaikto Township. The attacks caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure, including one house in Pyinkataunkon village, cemetery tombs, and agricultural crops. The military’s indiscriminate bombing campaign also affected the western areas of Sitkin village, Muktamot village, and Thonegwa village in the Khare village tract of Kyaikto Township, destroying civilian crops and agricultural lands.
The military council continued its offensive operations from March 4 to March 6, conducting both airstrikes and heavy artillery bombardments. These sustained attacks caused widespread fear and panic among local residents and resulted in extensive damage to their livelihoods, particularly affecting farmlands and crops in the area. The military’s actions have significantly impacted the civilian population’s ability to maintain their agricultural activities, which serve as their primary source of income and sustenance. The continuous attacks have created an atmosphere of terror and instability in the region, forcing many residents to live in constant fear while trying to protect their lives and property.
