A military council copper transport convoy was attacked near Kinmon Multi-purpose Farm in Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in the death of one soldier, according to Ko Htun, leader of Area 71 LPDF Monywa. The attack occurred at around 7:30 AM on June 18 when the convoy was traveling from Monywa to Sagaing along the Monywa-Mandalay road. Members of Area 71 LPDF Monywa used four Padamya mines to attack the convoy, successfully hitting the front cabin of the fourth vehicle in the convoy, killing one military council soldier who was inside.
Regarding the attack, Ko Htun, leader of Area 71 LPDF Monywa, stated that the front of the vehicle was directly hit, resulting in one casualty inside the cabin. The vehicle overturned, and blood was seen dripping from its doors, according to reports from their Scout team. He explained that their primary target was the security vehicle carrying soldiers, and they carefully executed the attack while avoiding civilian motorcycles and vehicles in the area. After the mine attack, security forces accompanying the convoy and soldiers positioned along the road responded with heavy weapons, including 40mm weapons, and small arms fire. However, the attacking forces managed to withdraw successfully without any casualties.
The operation was a joint effort between the Monywa Township People’s Defense Mine Team and Area 71 LPDF Monywa. The groups have advised civilians using the Monywa-Mandalay road to maintain a safe distance from military council convoys, hidden soldiers, and military columns for their safety. They emphasized the importance of staying vigilant and cautious while traveling along this route. This incident demonstrates the ongoing resistance activities against the military council’s operations in the Sagaing Region, where local defense forces continue to target military assets while prioritizing civilian safety.
