Despite declaring a one-month temporary ceasefire from May 6 to May 31, the military council continues to launch military offensives in Ta’ang territory. According to a statement from the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), military council forces are conducting attacks against local civilians using heavy weapons, drones, and airstrikes. They are particularly targeting civilian areas using chemical weapons.
On May 8, fighting broke out near Thayet Cho village in Naung Cho township when military council forces launched an offensive against TNLA forces. Artillery Battalion 902 of the military council dropped two bombs via drone at 9:33 AM and fired heavy weapons 16 times. Later at 3 PM, more fighting erupted near Yapyin village, with the military using drones to drop two bombs and firing heavy weapons twice. At 6 PM, fighting continued near Naung Lin village, where the military launched 8 drone bombs, 5 chemical weapons, and fired heavy artillery 31 times.
Similarly, at 11:36 AM, they dropped one chemical weapon on Ummati village and attacked Taung Hla village with 18 rounds of heavy artillery and 6 chemical weapons. These attacks resulted in the deaths of 4 civilians, including a 5-year-old child, when artillery shells hit a wedding ceremony in Thayet Cho village. Seven others were wounded in the attacks. The TNLA has urged civilians to remain vigilant against military council bombing attacks and follow air raid protection measures to protect themselves from airstrikes.
