Local residents have reported that civilians were killed and injured when the military council forces launched artillery strikes on Zero San village in Nga Thaing Chaung town, Yeikgyi Township, Ayeyarwady Region. The artillery attack, which occurred on June 22, targeted Zero San village near Set Set Yo village in the Kaku Gyi village tract, resulting in the deaths of three people including a Buddhist monk, a woman, and a child, while three other civilians sustained injuries.
According to a local resident, the military council forces have been continuously firing artillery shells under the pretext of the presence of the Arakan Army (AA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF) in the area. Additionally, the military council has been frequently conducting surveillance operations using powered paragliders, drones, and Y-12 aircraft in Yeikgyi Township, Nga Thaing Chaung town, and Laymyethna Township.
Local military sources report that AA and PDF joint forces have advanced into villages within Nga Thaing Chaung town, Yeikgyi Township, through Laymyethna Township, with many local youths joining these resistance forces. Young people are joining the revolutionary forces to avoid forced conscription by the military council, which has been pressuring civilians into military service.
Currently, residents from villages within the Set Set Yo and Kaku Gyi village tracts have been forced to flee as internally displaced persons, while AA and PDF offensive operations are gradually expanding toward Yeikgyi Township. Meanwhile, the military council forces have primarily focused on defensive preparations in urban areas and have reduced their offensive operations in rural villages, according to local military sources.
