The NMSP-AD/Ramonnya Mon Army has reported that a school in Taung Kamareik village, Kyainseikgyi Township, Karen State, has suffered significant damage due to artillery attacks by the military council forces. The incident occurred around 11 PM on July 23, when Infantry Battalion 545, based in Kyainseikgyi, launched two separate attacks using 122mm howitzer artillery shells, despite there being no active fighting in the area. The attacks struck both the outskirts of Taung Kamareik village and the school building within the village.
While the artillery strikes caused substantial damage to the school buildings and facilities, fortunately, no civilian casualties were reported in the incident. Currently, the military council forces are regularly conducting artillery strikes and helicopter attacks in the areas surrounding Kawkareik and Kyainseikgyi towns. Civilians residing in areas where there is no active conflict are living in constant fear due to the sounds of artillery fire and aircraft.
In response to these developments, the NMSP-AD/Ramonnya Mon Army has urged local residents to remain vigilant and take extra precautions regarding artillery fire and aircraft sounds. These deliberate attacks by the military council forces on non-combat areas have severely impacted the education, economy, social welfare, and daily lives of local civilians. The destruction of educational facilities particularly highlights the devastating effect of these military actions on civilian infrastructure and community development in the region.
