The terrorist military council conducted consecutive airstrikes over two days on two villages in Yenangyaung Township, Magway Region. According to the People’s Defence Force-Yenangyaung and local residents, these attacks resulted in one civilian death and injuries to four others, including children, while also causing damage to religious buildings. On August 21st, around midnight, the military council forces launched an unprovoked airstrike using fighter jets, dropping two bombs on a clinic and preschool in Lay Taing Sin village, Yenangyaung Township.
The aerial attack resulted in injuries to two civilians and significant damage to both the clinic and preschool buildings. The following day, on August 22nd in the afternoon, the terrorist military forces conducted another airstrike on San Kan Gyi village, again using fighter jets to drop two more bombs. This second attack resulted in one civilian death and severe injuries to two children. Additionally, residential homes and religious structures, including monasteries and pagodas, sustained considerable damage. The attacks occurred without any ongoing battles in the area, demonstrating deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure.
A local resident described the incidents, stating, ‘The preschool and clinic buildings were completely destroyed in Lay Taing Sin village. The military deliberately conducted the airstrike at night using aircraft to drop two bombs. While there were no deaths in Lay Taing Sin village, two civilians were injured. The next day’s attack on San Kan Gyi village resulted in one civilian death and severe injuries to two children.’ Local residents point out that these deliberate attacks by military council forces, resulting in civilian casualties and destruction of social infrastructure, can be classified as war crimes. The attacks have caused significant damage to community facilities and religious buildings, severely impacting civilian life in these villages.
