The terrorist military council conducted an unprovoked airstrike on Peinwe Kon village in Kyaikto Township, Mon State, resulting in the death of a 62-year-old elderly man and the destruction of three houses, according to local residents. The attack occurred on August 9, 2023, at approximately 9:23 AM, during which three other civilians were also injured. According to a local resident, the military council deliberately targeted the village with airstrikes despite there being no ongoing conflict in the area.
In a similar incident during July, the military council attacked Saung Naing Gyi village and Alu Lay East village in Kyaikto Township using aircraft and heavy weapons, resulting in the death of 15-year-old Naw Khin Nan Moe and the destruction of five houses. Local sources confirmed these attacks were also carried out without any military engagement in the area. These incidents demonstrate a pattern of deliberate targeting of civilian areas by the military council forces.
Furthermore, on August 8, 2023, between 11:13 PM and 11:16 PM, the military council conducted two separate airstrikes on a high school and a monastery in Minpyin village, Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State. The attacks resulted in the complete destruction of the school building and the collapse of the monastery’s dharma hall. These attacks on civilian infrastructure and educational facilities have caused significant concern among local residents, who continue to live under the threat of indiscriminate military attacks. The targeting of civilian structures, including religious and educational facilities, represents a concerning escalation in the military council’s campaign of violence against civilian populations.
