According to an official from the Indaw Revolution-IR group, the military council conducted an unprovoked airstrike on the town monastery in Indaw Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in the death of two civilians. The attack, which occurred around 12:30 PM on April 1, also left eight civilians injured and caused significant damage to the Yaytawmu Pagoda. The aerial bombardment targeted the area without any ongoing conflict in the vicinity.
The IR group official further explained that while the exact condition of the eight injured individuals remains unclear, the military-controlled area still houses mostly police personnel, Pyu Saw Htee members, and non-CDM staff. The majority of civilians had already evacuated from the area prior to the attack. The deliberate targeting of religious buildings and civilian areas by the military council has resulted in substantial losses and damages to both infrastructure and human lives.
Simultaneously, in Karen State’s Kyaindone Township, the military council’s artillery attacks resulted in the death of a 57-year-old woman in Wizza Kone village, as reported by the KNU Central Committee. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM on April 1, when soldiers from Military Operations Command 12’s New Artillery Hill fired five 120mm artillery shells at the village without any ongoing conflict. The unprovoked attack specifically targeted civilian areas, demonstrating a pattern of deliberate violence against non-military targets.
The KNU Central Committee has highlighted that the military council continues to deliberately target non-military locations across the country, showing no mercy to populations already suffering from both conflict and natural disasters. The systematic targeting of religious buildings, hospitals, schools, and civilian residential areas constitutes war crimes, as these attacks are carried out with clear intent against non-military targets. The military council’s actions demonstrate a complete disregard for civilian welfare and international humanitarian law, as they continue to target essential civilian infrastructure and communities during their operations.
