Local residents report that military council forces conducted airstrikes on two residential wards under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Hsipaw town, northern Shan State, resulting in civilian casualties. The attacks occurred on August 18 between 9:30 AM and 9:35 AM, targeting the Taung Myo ward and West ward of Hsipaw town. The airstrikes caused civilian injuries and significant damage to residential buildings in the area. The exact number of casualties is still being confirmed by local sources.
According to a local resident, bombs struck near Nandawi West and in front of the Saung Oo Restaurant. The attacks deliberately targeted civilian areas where no revolutionary forces were present at the time. The resident emphasized that this was a deliberate attack on civilians, with military aircraft continuing to circle the area after the initial strikes. The bombing of residential neighborhoods resulted in damage to homes and civilian infrastructure, though the full extent of casualties is still being assessed.
Prior to this incident, on August 9, the military council had conducted airstrikes on the Construction Officer’s Quarters near Hsipaw town. While no civilian casualties were reported in that attack, it resulted in significant damage to residential buildings. Additionally, during July, similar airstrikes on Hsipaw town had resulted in two male civilians killed and five others injured (one woman and four men). That earlier attack also destroyed 18 houses and one school. These repeated attacks demonstrate a pattern of military council airstrikes targeting civilian areas in Hsipaw, resulting in both civilian casualties and destruction of civilian infrastructure.
