The military council has launched a major offensive along the Pakokku-Myaing road in Magway Region’s Pakokku Township, deploying thousands of troops with air support, causing thousands of civilians to flee. According to the Anyar Land Combined Forces and Anyar Land Civil Society Organization, the military conducted an airstrike on a monastery in Myosoe village around noon on June 24. The airstrike destroyed the monastery and injured four people, including the resident monk, though their injuries are not life-threatening. The attack occurred near the Kyunchaung factory area in Pakokku Township.
The military column, which had reached Gamma town’s Gyopyar ward, continued moving along the Gamma-Yepa-Pauk road at around 2:30 PM. The column consists of over 1,000 soldiers and 92 vehicles. Sources indicate that the column has not moved far from Pakokku city and is advancing along the Myaing road while receiving reinforcements. The advance guard of the column has reached the Thagyi Taung oil field area, where they have been positioned for approximately two days. The military movement has forced thousands of residents from Gamma town and villages along the column’s route to flee their homes.
Military troops have been reportedly breaking into and looting civilian homes along their path. Residents of Gamma town have been displaced for about twenty days, though some civilians remain unable to evacuate. Civil society organizations have urged residents near the military column’s route, including those living near Pyu villages and the KPSC factory area, to remain vigilant and monitor military movements closely. The situation continues to deteriorate as the military council intensifies its operations in the region, causing widespread displacement and destruction of civilian property, including religious buildings that should be protected under international humanitarian law.
