A monastery in Latkattaung area of Launglone Township, Tanintharyi Region, was damaged along with its buildings and a vehicle following airstrikes by the military council forces, according to local residents. The attacks occurred on March 13 when revolutionary forces launched an offensive against the military council’s Latkattaung tower base camp. In response, the military council conducted continuous bombardment using both aircraft and naval vessels. During the attack, some local civilians who were at the monastery for a full moon day religious ceremony became trapped inside, though fortunately no civilian casualties were reported.
Similarly, the military council forces conducted aerial attacks using powered paragliders near Thonekone village, located on the border of Myaing and Natogyi Townships in Mandalay Region, around 2 AM on March 16, according to the Thaungtha Township Public Movement Committee. The extent of civilian casualties and property damage from these bombardments in these areas has not yet been fully verified.
Regarding the attack on the monastery in Latkattaung area, a local resident reported that the military council forces conducted simultaneous attacks from both air and sea, resulting in damage to monastery buildings and destruction of one vehicle, though no civilians were injured. Local residents point out that the military council forces are deliberately targeting civilian populations and religious buildings in retaliation for attacks by revolutionary forces. The military council’s aggressive response has shown a pattern of indiscriminate attacks on civilian infrastructure, including religious sites that should be protected from military operations.
