
Villages in Kani and Kalay Townships of Sagaing Region have suffered significant damage to homes and shops following airstrikes conducted by the military council’s forces. According to an official from the Kani Township Information and Public Relations Department, on May 9th in the afternoon, the military launched attacks on Sulekone village in Kani Township using two fighter jets from the Meiktila Shanwei Air Base. These airstrikes, which occurred without any ongoing battles in the area, targeted the village in four separate bombing runs.
Additionally, Letpanchaung village in Kalay Township was subjected to aerial bombardment by military council forces on the evening of May 8th, as reported by local residents. At approximately 9:14 PM, a fighter jet dropped a 250-pound bomb on the village, completely destroying two houses. Fortunately, no civilian casualties were reported in this incident. According to a local resident, the two houses were completely obliterated, leaving no trace of the structures behind.
The military council forces have been conducting frequent airstrikes on civilian villages in the Sagaing Region, claiming to suppress People’s Defense Forces and revolutionary groups. These attacks have resulted in the destruction of civilian properties and forced many residents to flee their homes, leading to significant humanitarian challenges. The brutal attacks by the military council have severely impacted the region’s socioeconomic conditions, destabilizing the daily lives of civilians. Local communities continue to face difficulties with basic necessities and displacement, while their homes and businesses suffer destruction from these indiscriminate aerial attacks.
