Local residents report that homes were destroyed by fire after the military council conducted airstrikes on areas in Rakhine State’s Punnakyun region, which is under the control of the Arakan Army (AA). On March 11 at around 2 PM, military council aircraft bombed Kwantaung village in Punnakyun Township, destroying five residential houses. According to local residents, while the military council targeted the area believing AA forces were present, civilians had already evacuated to safer locations earlier, so there were no civilian casualties.
The military council used a fighter jet to conduct the attack, dropping 500-pound bombs on the area. Additionally, in Karenni State’s Demoso town, the military council carried out three separate airstrikes on an IDP camp at 7:11 PM on March 11, dropping at least 15 bombs, according to confirmation from the CTER-Karenni IDP aid organization. The attack on the IDP camp in Demoso resulted in injuries to a 40-year-old man and widespread destruction of temporary shelters housing displaced civilians. Local sources indicated that the military aircraft systematically targeted the entire camp area, leaving no space untouched.
These deliberate attacks by the military council on civilian areas have heightened concerns for the safety and security of internally displaced persons. The military’s continued targeting of civilian infrastructure and displacement camps demonstrates an ongoing pattern of attacks affecting non-combatant populations. The systematic nature of these airstrikes, particularly against refugee camps and civilian villages, has created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among displaced communities who have already fled from previous conflicts. The destruction of homes and temporary shelters has further complicated the humanitarian situation for those seeking refuge from the ongoing violence.
