While Min Aung Hlaing, the leader of the terrorist military council, claims that their military does not conduct violent attacks in Myanmar, their forces carried out an airstrike on a monastery in Kan Mon Chaung village, Salin Township, Magway Region on March 20. The attack resulted in the death of one civilian and caused significant damage to the monastery and religious structures, according to a representative from the Salin Township People’s Defense Force. This airstrike clearly demonstrates the military council’s ongoing campaign of violence against civilians and religious sites.
Furthermore, the military council has been collecting information about young people from orphanages and monasteries in an attempt to force them into military service, as reported by local residents. This action constitutes a violation of international law and represents a serious infringement on the rights of young people. The military council’s efforts to conscript youth forcibly are destroying their educational opportunities and future prospects, while also demonstrating their desperate attempts to maintain power through coercion.
In northern Shan State’s Theinni (Hseni) town, investigations into former Regional Police Commander Major General Myint Kyaw Tun, who was arrested in connection with a currency counterfeiting operation, have revealed additional allegations involving drug trafficking and weapons transportation. As a result, the military council has suspended and seized assets from the Pyipyinshan bus line along with other vehicles. This case highlights the extensive corruption and illegal activities occurring within the military council’s ranks, demonstrating the systemic nature of criminal behavior among high-ranking officials within the organization.
