The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) has reported that three civilians were killed and one was injured in an airstrike by the military council forces on Thonezay village in Naung Cho Township, Shan State. On July 1, 2023, at 3:15 PM, the military council forces began their aerial assault on Thonezay village in Naung Cho Township, conducting four separate bombing runs that dropped a total of 11 bombs. The airstrikes resulted in the death of three civilian men and injured another man, while also causing damage to two houses and two monasteries.
Previously, on June 29, the military council forces had also conducted an airstrike on Kyaukme town using fighter jets, dropping six 250-pound bombs. This attack resulted in injuries to two women and four men, while causing damage to 14 houses, one school, and two monasteries. These airstrikes by the military council forces deliberately target civilian populations and constitute violations of international law.
The Ta’ang National Liberation Army has issued warnings to civilians to remain vigilant against the military council’s aerial attacks and to follow air raid defense procedures for their safety. The statement emphasizes that the military council is planning to increase aerial attacks against civilians, making it crucial for people to exercise extreme caution. The TNLA advises civilians to immediately seek shelter when aircraft sounds are heard and to follow proper air raid protection protocols. These ongoing attacks demonstrate the military council’s continued aggression against civilian populations in the region.
