According to a statement from a We Love Myaing organization official, an unprovoked airstrike by the military council forces on a monastery in Sin Sein village, Myaing Township, Magway Region, has left two civilians injured, with one in critical condition. The incident occurred on March 4, 2024, at approximately 9:35 AM, when military council forces deliberately targeted the monastery in Sin Sein village and the eastern forest area near Kaing Yoe village in western Myaing Township using fighter jets, despite there being no active conflict in the area.
The aerial attack resulted in two innocent civilians who were taking shelter in the Sin Sein village monastery sustaining injuries, with one victim suffering a severed leg and experiencing severe blood loss, placing them in a life-threatening condition. The military council’s airstrike also caused extensive damage to the monastery compound, destroying numerous pagodas, monastery buildings, and other structures. The extent of damage caused by the bombing in the eastern forest area near Kaing Yoe village is still under investigation, according to the We Love Myaing organization’s report.
Local residents emphasized that there were no active conflicts or armed group movements in the area prior to the attack, making this an unprovoked assault by the military council forces. They pointed out that targeting religious structures such as monasteries constitutes a war crime. Currently, efforts are being made to provide medical treatment to the injured victims, while documentation of the destruction within the monastery compound continues. The attack on religious buildings and civilian targets without any military justification demonstrates the military council’s ongoing campaign of violence against its own people, causing both civilian casualties and damage to religious sites that are protected under international humanitarian law.
