
Local residents reported that the abbot Venerable Bhaddanta Wisudha passed away after the terrorist military council conducted an unprovoked airstrike on a monastery in Kyauk Kwin village, Hpapun Township, Karen State, on the evening of March 5. During the aerial attack, two other monks were injured and the monastery compound suffered extensive damage.
According to local sources, the military council’s air force suddenly targeted the monastery despite there being no ongoing conflict in the area. The attack involved both aerial bombardment and machine gun fire. The Venerable Bhaddanta Wisudha was struck by bomb fragments and passed away. His funeral ceremony was completed on March 6.
The two injured monks were reported to be in critical condition and had to be transferred to Hpa-An city for emergency medical treatment. The monastery buildings sustained significant damage from the bomb strikes. Local residents expressed deep concern over this deliberate attack by the military council, which has created an atmosphere of fear and anxiety in the community. The unprovoked nature of the attack on a religious site has particularly disturbed the local population, as there were no military activities in the area at the time of the bombing.
