In the western part of Mogok Township, Mandalay Region, the military council conducted an airstrike on Ka Thet residential area, which is under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), resulting in civilian casualties according to local residents. The military council’s fighter jets carried out the bombing raid at 9:02 AM on May 3rd, targeting the residential area where civilians reside.
The targeted area contains numerous residential buildings, a preschool, a CB Bank branch, and a marketplace. According to a local PDF member, the bombing resulted in the immediate death of a mason, who was decapitated by the blast. The military council had also conducted airstrikes on both eastern and western parts of Mogok Township the previous night, though those attacks resulted only in property damage without civilian casualties.
These aerial attacks began following the breakdown of peace talks between the military council and TNLA, which were mediated by China in Kunming on April 28th and 29th. Since the failure of these negotiations, the military council has been conducting continuous airstrikes from the previous night through this morning. Local residents point out that such deliberate targeting of civilian-populated areas constitutes a war crime. The military council’s escalation of violence against civilian areas demonstrates a pattern of aggressive actions following failed peace negotiations, showing complete disregard for civilian safety and international humanitarian law.
