A military airstrike using a Y-12 aircraft near Ingyin Myaing village in Mattaya Township, Mandalay Region, has resulted in the deaths of a novice monk, a nun, and a civilian, according to Voice of Mandalay. The attack occurred around 7 PM on September 13th, with the military council forces dropping 12 bombs on the area despite there being no active fighting in the region. The victims included an 11-year-old novice monk, a 70-year-old nun, and a 40-year-old woman.
The military council has been conducting daily airstrikes on villages throughout Mattaya Township, forcing local residents to flee to safer areas. The northeastern part of Mattaya Township has been particularly targeted by these military operations. On September 10th and 11th, the military council also conducted airstrikes on Sharsaychauk and Seiptha villages in Mattaya Township without any ongoing battles, resulting in significant damage to civilian homes and properties. These attacks have been characterized as deliberately targeting civilian populations rather than military objectives.
Due to the ongoing airstrikes by military council forces, villagers in Mattaya Township have been forced to seek refuge in forested areas, facing severe shortages of food and medical supplies. The situation has become particularly challenging for elderly residents, children, and those with medical conditions. Human rights organizations have declared these attacks on civilian populations as war crimes, noting that the military council’s deliberate targeting of non-combatants violates international humanitarian law. The continuous aerial bombardment has created a humanitarian crisis in the region, with displaced villagers struggling to access basic necessities and medical care while living in makeshift shelters in the forest.
