In Kyaukphyu village, Pyitsar Township, Mandalay Region, a military council airstrike targeted a house where children were studying, resulting in the death of a 10-year-old child and injuries to seven others. The incident occurred around 2 PM on September 7, with the attack being carried out without any ongoing conflict in the area, according to Ko Awt Smon, spokesperson for the People’s Defense Force – Mandalay Division.
The military council used fighter jets to launch rocket attacks on the civilian target. Among the injured were five children, with some sustaining severe injuries. The military council has been systematically targeting civilian populations and infrastructure, particularly focusing on schools, hospitals, and residential areas. The People’s Defense Force (Mandalay) has declared these attacks on civilians as war crimes, emphasizing the deliberate nature of these assaults on non-military targets.
This incident represents another example of the military council’s systematic attacks against civilians, specifically targeting even children engaged in educational activities. The military council continues to violate international humanitarian laws by carrying out violent attacks against civilian populations. Local residents are living in fear and constant concern for their safety, as these attacks demonstrate a pattern of deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure and vulnerable populations, including children. The military council’s actions show a complete disregard for civilian lives and international humanitarian principles, particularly concerning the protection of children and educational facilities.
