Local residents reported that homes were destroyed when the terrorist military bombed Thanhtawteik village in Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region, with aircraft despite no ongoing fighting in the area. On July 23 at approximately 11:30 AM, a fighter jet from Tataoo Air Base conducted an unprovoked attack on Thanhtawteik village, dropping one 500-pound bomb and one 300-pound bomb on the civilian settlement.
The aerial attack caused significant damage to civilian homes in the village, though fortunately there were no human casualties reported. However, one cow owned by local residents was killed in the bombing. Most villagers had fortunately gone to work in their hillside farms at the time of the attack, which allowed them to escape harm. According to local residents, this deliberate targeting of a civilian area by the military council’s air force occurred without any military engagement or justification.
A local resident stated that the military council’s air force intentionally targeted the civilian village despite there being no active conflict in the area. The unprovoked attacks have resulted in the destruction of civilian property and livelihoods, demonstrating the military’s systematic targeting of civilian populations. These aerial assaults have created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among local residents, who now face increased risks even when traveling to their daily work sites. The military council’s continued attacks on civilian targets highlight their disregard for civilian safety and their use of disproportionate force against their own people.
