The Mandalay People’s Defense Force has confirmed that numerous buildings were destroyed when the military council conducted air strikes on Malay Nat Taung Dam and three villages in Sintguu Township, Mandalay Region. The aerial attacks occurred on March 24th, lasting from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, during which the military council deployed five fighter jets to target Malay Nat Taung Dam, Zoke Chaung Village, Htauk Kyan Pin Village, and Kan Taung Village.
During these air strikes, the military council specifically targeted natural resource operations where local civilians worked for their livelihood. The attacks resulted in injuries to one man and one woman, while causing extensive damage to numerous civilian-owned buildings and structures. Additionally, some unexploded aircraft bombs remained in the area, which the Mandalay People’s Defense Force had to clear to ensure the safety of local residents.
These air strikes by the military council constitute violations of international law and amount to war crimes against civilians. Local residents and civil society organizations strongly condemn these deliberate attacks on civilian lives, properties, and economic activities, emphasizing that such targeted assaults on civilian populations should be classified as war crimes. The attacks have not only caused immediate physical damage but have also severely impacted the economic stability and safety of the local communities, demonstrating the military council’s continued use of violence against its own people.
