The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) has reported that the military council conducted aerial bombings using 500-pound bombs on Mogok city in Mandalay Region and Nawnghkio city in Northern Shan State on the evening of May 13, resulting in significant damage to residential homes. The aerial attack on Nawnghkio city’s Market Quarter Zone 10 destroyed seven houses, and notably, there was no active fighting in the area at the time of the bombing. This aerial assault was carried out at 9:30 PM.
Additionally, at 11:49 PM on May 13, the military council conducted another aerial bombing near the Shwe Lay Pya area of Mogok Township in Mandalay Region. Prior to these attacks, on the night of May 12, the military also conducted aerial bombardments on Mantong and Mong Ngaw cities in Northern Shan State, resulting in one civilian death and three injuries. The bombing damaged 27 civilian homes in the residential area. In Mong Ngaw’s Talong Quarter, jet fighters conducted two separate bombing runs, dropping four bombs near a school compound.
Despite the military council’s declaration of a one-month extension of the ceasefire period from May 6 to May 31, 2025, they continue to conduct offensive operations, artillery shelling, and daily drone and aerial attacks, as reported by the TNLA. These deliberate attacks on civilian-populated areas constitute war crimes and violations of international humanitarian law. The military council’s actions demonstrate a clear pattern of targeting civilian infrastructure and populations, despite their public claims of maintaining a ceasefire.
